Project Definition


Energy Maven Nantucket is a private platform to exchange information on energy issues related to Nantucket island.   This project will be used to gauge interest and perhaps lead to the establishment of a 501(c)3 non-profit.  Energy Maven Nantucket was launched in March 2013 and is maintained by Anne Kuszpa.


  • to reduce energy consumption by island residents, visitors, businesses and the municipality
  • to encourage the growth of renewable energy generation to serve the island's energy needs
  • to prompt policy makers to adopt and follow a clear overall energy strategy for the island

Short-Term Benefits

  • Monetary savings due to reduced consumption of fuel and electricity
  • Buildings are better insulated and more comfortable
  • Plan B  established for grid failure or other large scale outage

Long-Term Benefits

  • Increased self-sufficiency for energy needs
  • Avoid costly undersea electric cables
  • Future generations can enjoy island and healthy planet

Project Constraints

There are several hurdles this initiative must overcome to be successful.  Currently, there exists no formal organization or citizen's group dedicated to Nantucket energy issues.   The political climate surrounding this issue is murky.  The current Board of Selectmen have not included energy issues as a priority in their goals and objectives.
