The  Nantucket Energy Office is an arm of the Town of Nantucket which provides guidance and assistance for island-wide  energy projects and initiatives, as directed by the board of Selectmen.

The Nantucket Energy Study Committee was initiated in 2004 and comprised of five to nine citizens appointed by the Board of Selectmen.  Stemming from a heated community debate regarding erecting a wind turbine at the Madaket landfill, the committee was indefinitely placed "on-hold" in May of 2012.  It is currently not recognized by the Board of Selectmen as a Town committee.
